Bonjour Elastique Athletics Family,
We're thrilled to bring you an exclusive interview with Laure Seguin, our expert lymphatic drainage massage therapist hailing from the beautiful city of Toulouse in southwestern France. Join us as we dive into the world of lymphatic drainage and learn how Laure's expertise can enhance our health and well-being.
Bonjour Laure! Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got interested in lymphatic drainage?
"I hail from Toulouse, a beautiful city in southwestern France. It's perfectly situated for exploring both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, with the Pyrenees mountains nearby for skiing adventures. Years ago, I saw a documentary about the Vodder method of lymphatic drainage, a technique developed by Dr. Vodder. It featured a young client with severe acne who experienced incredible improvement after receiving lymphatic drainage massages. This sparked my curiosity, and I knew I wanted to learn more."
Where did you begin your career in lymphatic health?
"I began my career working closely with plastic surgeons in Paris, who greatly valued lymphatic drainage for its ability to boost the immune system, eliminate toxins, and prepare the body for surgery and recovery. To effectively cleanse your body, lymphatic drainage is key as it helps flush toxins from your circulatory system and tissues, promoting overall health and wellness. For optimal results, I recommend two lymphatic drainage sessions before surgery, and we begin the massages two days post-surgery to enhance recovery and reduce swelling. My training was deeply enriched by studying with the last direct student of Dr. Emil Vodder, the pioneer of modern lymphatic drainage therapy, in the South of France near the Spanish border many years ago."
What exactly is the Vodder technique?
"The Vodder Technique involves gentle, rhythmic movements, including light strokes, taps, and gentle pumping, applied in a specific sequence to encourage lymph fluid movement towards the lymph nodes. Utilizing very light pressure, typically less than 30 mmHg, is crucial to avoid compressing or damaging the superficial lymphatic vessels. The strokes are directed towards the lymph nodes, following the natural flow of the lymphatic system, which helps decongest areas with fluid build-up and promotes effective drainage. The technique focuses on specific body areas, such as the neck, armpits, abdomen, and groin, where lymph nodes are concentrated, facilitating optimal lymph drainage."
Do you have a personal protocol you use?
"I specialize in the Vodder method for pure lymphatic drainage, and I've developed a unique protocol specifically for reducing cellulite. My approach typically involves three to five sessions of pure Vodder lymphatic drainage, focusing primarily on the tummy area. During these sessions, I work on smoothing the tissue to facilitate toxin removal and flush out excess fluid.
After these initial sessions, I incorporate the "palper-rouler" technique. This involves firmly grasping and rolling the skin to include the fatty tissue. By combining this method with the traditional Vodder lymphatic drainage, I have found it to be highly effective for cellulite reduction. This approach minimizes pain, prevents bruising, and yields longer-lasting results.
Overall, my protocol combines the benefits of lymphatic drainage with targeted techniques to achieve optimal results in cellulite reduction."
How long does it take to see improvement?
"The time it takes to see improvement depends on your specific goals. For improvements in skin texture and swelling, results can often be seen rapidly. In some cases, even after the first session, you may observe noticeable changes as excess water and toxins are flushed from your system. However, consistent sessions are usually needed for sustained and more significant results."
What are your thoughts on compression wear?
"I am 100% for implementing compression wear, especially during hot and humid summer weather. I believe people should wear compression garments daily to see the difference. For swollen legs, compression garments can be an excellent addition to your routine. They help reduce swelling and promote a more toned appearance."
What's your best tip for our readers?
"Chew your food slowly and avoid distractions while eating. Take at least 45 minutes for each meal, savoring each bite. This allows your body to begin digestion properly and can help reduce bloating."
Merci for your time, Laure!
